Taylor Swift topped the charts for the first half of 2024, according to the music charts. By the halfway point of the year, her eleventh studio album, The Tortured Poets Department, not only broke records for both traditional album sales and digital downloads, but it also became the best-selling record in the US.

The concert promoter for The Eras Tour was not only at the top but also had many spots on the top 10 best-selling records in the US by the midway point of the year. Her best-selling albums 1989 (Taylor’s Version), Lover, Folklore, and Midnights held steady at five out of ten places, in addition to her most recent album. But Poets’ aura was unmatched; it was the only album with sales calculated in millions to make it to the top 10 selling ranking.

 

According to data tracking company Luminate’s (formerly MRC Data, Nielsen Music, and SoundScan) midyear music report for 2024, Swift’s TTPD earned 4.66 million equivalent album units during the tracking period of December 29, 2023, through June 27, 2024. The Republic Records record became the first album by a woman to debut at the top of the chart for 12 weeks after topping the weekly Billboard 200 list for 12 weeks.

Comparable album units include track equivalent albums (TEA), streaming equivalent albums (SEA), and regular album sales. One album sale, ten single tracks sold from an album, 3,750 ad-supported official audio and video streams created by album songs, or 1,250 paid/subscription on-demand official and audio streams generated by album songs are all considered comparable to one unit, according to Billboard.

Swift’s album Poets sold 2.47 million traditional copies and topped the year’s best-selling album list (so far) in the first half of 2024, thanks to 1.07 million CD sales, 988,000 vinyl sales, and 395,000 digital downloads.

 

Taylor Swift topped the popularity chart with her TTPD. The release of Morgan Wallen in 2023 The March 2024 release of Stick by Beyoncé and the October 2022 release of One Thing at a Time by Noah Kahan Cowboy Carter and SZA’s release in December 2022 SOS concluded the list of the top 5 widely-listened albums of the year, following Swift.

Beyonce and Billie Eilish, Swift’s peers, had some of the best-selling albums by the halfway point of the year. In contrast to the popular albums chart, the best-selling list featured K-pop releases as well.

 

With their combined physical and digital album sales in the second half, three South Korean musicians topped the list, while three Taylor albums, Billie Eilish albums, and Beyonce albums dominated the top five ranks.

With 193,000 sales, Minisode 3: TOMORROW, the mini-album by TOMORROW X TOGETHER (TXT) that was published in April 2024, peaked at number six. Golden Hour: Part 1, the tenth mini-album by ATEEZ, debuted at number seven, exactly one spot below TXT with 191,000 sales. TWICE’s 13th mini-album, With YOU-th, rounded out the results for K-pop artists in the top 10 selling albums in the US with 174,000 sales, placing it at #9.
