Project 2025: A wish list for a Trump presidency is explained.

Trump presidency is explained A wish list Project 2025

It is billed as a policy “wish list” for the next Republican president, with the goal of dramatically expanding presidential powers and imposing an ultra-conservative social agenda on the United States.

Project 2025

Donald Trump has rejected the Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025 manifesto, despite the fact that many of its authors worked for his predecessor’s government.
Critics of the former president have emphasized links between the Trump campaign and Project 2025, and this attack line is expected to continue during this month’s Democratic National Convention in Chicago.

Here’s an overview of what the document contains.

Who wrote Project 2025?

Washington think tanks of all political shades frequently present policy wish lists for future governments-in-waiting.

The conservative Heritage Foundation originally developed policy plans for future Republican governments in 1981, just as Ronald Reagan was about to take office.

Similar records have been released in connection with succeeding presidential elections, including in 2016, when Trump was elected president.

A year into his presidency, the think tank claimed that the Trump administration had approved roughly two-thirds of its recommendations.

US Court Calls Google

Google supported the Obama network neutrality policy and he failed to adopt the congruent Pasquale policy of search neutrality.

On August 5, 2024, the US Court for the District of Columbia (DC) decided that Google was a monopolist, meaning it has durable market power as the dominant player in its field of “general search services”. This is a violation of competition law.

The Project 2025 study was released in April 2023, but liberal criticism of the document has increased now that Trump has extended his polling advantage.
The Republican nominee has distanced himself from the proposal.

“I know nothing about Project 2025,” he wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social. “I have no idea who is behind it.”I disagree with some of what they’re saying, and some of it is completely stupid and terrible.”

However, the project’s crew is full of former Trump advisers, including director Paul Dans, who served as chief of staff at the Office of Personnel Management during Trump’s presidency.

Mr Dans quit the initiative in late July, allowing Heritage Foundation President Kevin Roberts to take control. He stated that he was departing during the presidential election season to “direct all my efforts to winning, bigly”.

Russell Vought, another former Trump administration official, drafted a crucial chapter for the paper and is the Republican National Committee’s 2024 platform policy director.

According to Heritage, more than 100 conservative organizations contributed to the text, including those that would wield enormous power in Washington if Republicans reclaimed the presidency.

The Project 2025 paper has four major policy goals: restoring the family as the focal point of American society, dismantling the administrative state, defending the nation’s sovereignty and borders, and ensuring God-given individual rights to live freely.

Here is an overview of some of its important recommendations.

Government

Project 2025 envisions putting the entire federal bureaucracy, including independent agencies like the Department of Justice, under direct presidential supervision – a contentious concept known as “unitary executive theory”.

In fact, this would streamline decision-making and enable the president to immediately execute policies in a variety of sectors.

The ideas also propose abolishing job protections for thousands of government employees, who would subsequently be replaced by political appointees. The FBI is described as a “bloated, arrogant, increasingly lawless organization” in the memo. It asks for major overhauls of this and other government agencies, as well as the abolition of the Department of Education.

What does the Republican party platform say?

The party platform includes a vow to “declassify government records, root out wrongdoers, and fire corrupt employees” as well as pledges to reduce regulation and government spending. However, it does not propose a comprehensive revamp of government agencies, as Project 2025 does.

Immigration

The plan proposes more funding for a wall along the US-Mexico border, which was one of Donald Trump‘s trademark ideas in 2016.

Project 2025 also suggests abolishing the Department of Homeland Security and combining it with other immigration enforcement units from other agencies to form a far larger and more powerful border policing operation.

Other recommendations include reducing visa categories for victims of crime and human trafficking, raising immigration fees, and letting migrants to pay a premium for fast-tracked applications.

What does the Republican party platform say?

Not all of these details are reproduced in the party platform, but the broad headlines are similar: the party promises to conduct the “largest deportation programme in American history.”

Climate and Economy

The memo proposes cutting federal funding for renewable energy research and investment, and it urges the next president to “end the war on oil and natural gas.”

Carbon-reduction targets would be replaced by initiatives to boost energy production and security.

The article presents two opposing views on tariffs and is divided on whether the next president should promote free trade or enhance import barriers.

However, economic advisers recommend that a second Trump government reduce corporate and income taxes, abolish the Federal Reserve, and even explore returning to gold-backed money.

What does the Republican party platform say?

In these policy areas, the party platform is less ambitious than Project 2025. Instead, the platform discusses lowering inflation and drilling for oil to lower energy prices, but offers few particular policy ideas.

Abortion and family

Project 2025 does not explicitly call for a nationwide abortion ban.

However, it proposes taking the abortion pill mifepristone off the market and using existing but little-enforced rules to prevent the medicine from being distributed through the mail.

The statement recommends that the Department of Health and Human Services “maintain a biblically based, social science-reinforced definition of marriage and family”.

What does the Republican party platform say?

On this point, at least, the paper differs significantly from the Republican platform, which only mentions the term “abortion” once. The platform asserts that abortion regulations should be left to individual states, and that late-term abortions (which it does not define) should be prohibited.

It also states that access to prenatal care, birth control, and in-vitro fertilization should be maintained. The party program makes no mention of restricting the availability of mifepristone.

Tech and education

Pornography would be prohibited under the proposals, and tech and telecom businesses that provided access would be shut down.

The pamphlet advocates for school choice and parental control over schools, as well as a critique of “woke propaganda”.

It suggests removing a vast range of phrases from all federal laws and regulations, including “sexual orientation,” “gender equality,” “abortion,” and “reproductive rights”.

Project 2025 seeks to eliminate diversity, equity, and inclusion programs in schools and government departments as part of a broader crackdown on “woke” thinking.

What does the Republican party platform say?

Project 2025’s proposals in this policy area are broadly reflected in the Republican platform, which, in addition to calling for the abolition of the Department of Education, aims to increase school choice and parental control over education while criticizing what the party calls “inappropriate political indoctrination of our children”.

Social Security

Despite Heritage’s long-standing advocacy for revamping the nation’s public pension system, Project 2025 rarely touches on this third rail of American politics.

What does the Republican party platform say?

According to the platform, Social Security is a “lifeline” for millions of retired Americans, and Republicans will “restore economic stability to ensure the long-term sustainability” of the program.

The plan’s future

Project 2025 has a $22 million (£17 million) budget and contains plans for enacting measures immediately following the presidential inauguration in January 2025.

Heritage is also developing a database of conservative loyalists to fill government positions, as well as a training program for these new workers.

Democrats, led by California congressman Jared Huffman, have formed the Stop Project 2025 Task Force.

If many of Trump’s policies are enacted, they will almost certainly face instant legal challenges from his opponents.
