Elon Musk‘s highly anticipated talks with Republican presidential contender Donald Trump on the billionaire’s Platform X have been overshadowed by technical complications.
The conversation, in which Mr. Musk addressed lively questions about immigration and inflation, started more than 40 minutes late due to technical problems for many users.
The session was promoted as an interview, but Trump made several unsubstantiated allegations that went unchallenged.
Mr. Musk reiterated his support for Trump, who faces resurgent Vice President Kamala Harris in the November race.
He attributed the errors to a cyber-attack.
The discussion on X comes as former president and Republican presidential contender Trump tries to restart his re-election campaign.
Meanwhile, Mr. Musk has gained popularity as a political figure. Ms. Harris’s arrival intensified the race for the White House after President Joe Biden stepped down.
Who is Elon Musk and what is his net worth?
He has just become active in a new political committee that supports Trump‘s candidacy.
“America is the fork in the road, and you are the road to prosperity, where I believe orange is the opposite,” Mr. Musk said in one exchange.
The two men discussed a range of topics at a rally in Pennsylvania last month, including Trump‘s assassination attempt, the US desire for an “Iron Dome” missile defense system like Israel’s, and immigration, a prominent campaign issue.
If Trump wins the election in November, he would consider abolishing the federal Department of Education and devolving authority to the states as one of his first steps.
The relationship between Mr Musk and Mr Trump has changed over the years but they have traded online barbs in the past.

How Musk and Trump resolved their disputes?
However, the two had a friendly talk on Monday and numerous compliments were exchanged.
Trump praised Tesla, which Mr. Musk also owns, despite his previous skepticism about electric vehicles and promises to cut federal subsidies.
He recently said he had “no choice” but to promote EVs because of Mr Musk‘s endorsement, and on Monday he described Tesla’s product as “fantastic”.
Many viewers noticed a change in Trump‘s speech, which sounded like his lisp, but a Trump campaign spokesperson claimed it was normal.
But the Kasturi-Trump conversation did not start well.
In a message, Mr Musk blamed “a massive DDoS attack on X” for many users’ problems accessing the livestream.
A distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack is an attempt to overwhelm a website, making it difficult to use or inaccessible.
“A DDoS attack sends too many signals to an online target to disrupt it,” said Anthony Lim, director of Singapore’s Center for Strategic Cyberspace and International Studies.
“It is unlikely that this will affect just a single service or feature on a website.”
Mr Lim noted that the large number of people trying to listen briefly crashed the service.
However, IT firm Damovo’s Andrew Hay believes the problems could stem from a cyber-attack.
Recalling Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ presidential campaign in May 2023, a livestream issue was shown and broadcast on X.
What is Elon Musk’s game plan?
Monday January 6, 2021 saw Trump’s return to X/Twitter, after it was deleted shortly after the Capitol riots.
Aside from Monday’s flurry of campaign ads, Trump only posted one other post — his mug shot and a link to his campaign website — a year ago, after Musk revived his X account in 2022.
It’s unclear whether Trump, who frequently publishes on his Truth Social website, will continue to do so at X.
